Light painting is a unique and highly complex method of photography that uses specialty continous lighting to make a series of images of a subject from the same vantage point. The resulting exposures are merged and blended into a single photograph that hightlights the subject in a way not possible through any other photography style or technique.
This specialized technique of light painting has given me the ability to show subjects in a “different light” so that viewers can appreciate them in an unexpected way. The light is meticulously applied in each image and is very sculptural in nature, giving an almost 3-D effect to the finished image.
Light painting requires working in a completely dark environment, opening the camera for an extended period of time, and “painting” the light onto the subject. this reveals greater shape, texture and color and is very much sculpting with light.
